PAC06 | "Bless This Land – Cantonese Opera Showcase under the Bamboo Theatre at Victoria Park" Teacher Performance (Completed)

About the Programme

Worshipping the Moon is one of the Four Major Southern Opera Classics (The Story of the Wooden Hairpin, Liu ZhiyuanThe Story of the Rabbit, Worshipping the Moon, and Slaying the Dog), with Under the Umbrella being its most exciting scene.  This opera is chosen as it contains the basic elements of Cantonese Opera, such as ‘singing’, ‘reciting’, ‘acting’, ‘fencing’, ‘every sound is the sound of music’, ‘every move is a dance move’, etc.  The moderator will explain in greater depth the differences between the banqiangti (bangzi and erhuang) and qupaiti (xiaoqu and paiziqu) of the singing parts, and the importance of speeches.  The moderator will also give examples of abstract and rhythmic movements in the opera, which reveal infinite artistic possibilities.  We hope to take this opportunity to guide teachers to stroll in the atmosphere of Cantonese Opera and share the beauty of this traditional art with their students in the future.
