PAD04 | Balanchine's Jewels (excerpts) by Hong Kong Ballet* (In Cantonese) (Completed)parent

George Balanchine's glittering masterwork Jewels was inspired by a chance visit to iconic jewelers Van Cleef & Arpels on Fifth Avenue in New York, and since its premiere in 1967, it has become one of the most renowned works of the twentieth century. This dazzling three-act ballet celebrates the beauty and glamour of precious gemstones: in Emeralds, Balanchine evokes the French romantic style; in Rubies, he celebrates American exuberance and energy; and in Diamonds, he presents the magnificent grandeur of Imperial Russia. With music by Fauré, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky and sparkling costumes, the modern classic Jewels is the epitome of glamour!

Remark: The presentation of this excerpt from Balanchine's Jewels will take the form of a rehearsal with a short programme introduction. It may briefly pause at times if necessary.

*The programme is offered by the arts group in support of “2020/21 School Culture Day Scheme” .
