Chung Ying Theatre Company - Without the Vajra Hoop: the Monkey King's Three Strikes Against the Bone Spirit  Creative Fairy Tales Drama Creation in Practice Project

Highlights and Objectives

  • A school-year-long drama creative training programme
  • Suitable for all Primary 4 to 6 students
  • Programme includes interactive drama activities (Process Drama), drama training workshops and performance rehearsals
  • Enhance students' comprehension of character and build their empathy through learning story adaptation
  • Develop students' interest on plot creation and cultivate their understanding of drama
  • Participating students will present their learning outcomes at the in-school finale performance

Contents

This year, we will focus on Without the Vajra Hoop: the Monkey King's Three Strikes Against the Bone Spirit, guiding students to understand the characteristics, habits and values of the main characters from the original novel through "Process Drama".  Students can also experience the fun of theatre while creating a script collectively for an in-school performance of about 10 to 12 minutes, arousing their potential and creativity.

  • The programme will run for 9 months in three phases

Phase 1:
Drama Training Workshop
(7 sessions)

November 2025 to April 2026

Theatrical Art Workshop (November to December 2025)
Students will learn about actors' attitude and basic performance skill.  They will also improve their concentration, build team spirit and develop physical coordination through theatre games and activities.

Process Drama and Collective Plot Creation (December 2025 to April 2026)
Students will explore the personalities of the characters and consider the dramatic conflicts faced by the characters in the story.  These will help enrich the contents and layers of their script.  Incorporating their understanding of the characters and their creativity, students will collectively create new plots and script for their finale performance.

Phase 2:
Rehearsal
(12 sessions)

April to June 2026

To rehearse and prepare for the finale performance, students will be trained on theatrical performance skills, including voicing, body language, emotion expression, etc.

Phase 3:
In-school Finale Rehearsal and Performance
(1 session)

July 2026

The in-school finale performance, which features students' adaptation of a classic fairy tale, will be staged on campus so that the learning outcomes can be shared with their schoolmates, teachers and parents.

If the number of participants recruited is below 25, the participating school is required to cover the course fee for 25 persons.

The course fee does not include production costs for sets, costumes or props.

Fees are calculated on a per-person basis and are non-refundable.
