About the Project

In ancient China, repeated southward migrations of people from the Central Plains facilitated the spread of Central Plains music to the Lingnan region, where it merged with local customs and cultures to form a splendid musical lineage.  In the mid-twentieth century, Hong Kong welcomed immigrants from various regions to settle and take root, becoming an open city that bears diverse historical and cultural memories and preserves numerous items of intangible cultural heritage to this day.  This project presents a community tour themed on Intangible Cultural Heritage music to inherit, revitalise, and promote musical items listed on the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory.

The project is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series.  The LCSD has all along promoted Chinese history and culture through organising an array of programmes and activities to enable the public learn more about broad and profound Chinese culture.  For more information, please visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/ccpo/index.html.
