PAC02 | Chinese Culture Festival 2026: Chinese Opera Festival — A New Cantonese Opera Ancient Tune of Guangling (Chinese Culture for All : A Special Performance)parent

The Chinese Culture Festival 2026 has organised a special outreach programme with free performances for students to experience the art of Chinese opera.

Loong Koon-tin and Tang Mi-ling will lead a cast of virtuoso and rising stars in an excerpt of Ancient Tune of Guangling, a new Cantonese opera, with a guided appreciation session.

It tells of Ji Kang, a scholar-musician of the Wei–Jin era.  He chooses a plebeian life over the offer of high positions and his principled words of advice lead to his demise.  At the execution ground, he calmly plays the transcendent melody Ancient Tune of Guangling, which he received in a dream, one final time.  The abrupt breaking of a string on his instrument signifies a life laid down for a moral cause.
