Treasure-Hunt Stories: A 25-Year Cinematic Journey

The Hong Kong Film Archive has long been dedicated to the acquisition, preservation, and promotion of Hong Kong's film history and culture.  In 2026, as the Archive celebrates its 25th anniversary, a special exhibition focusing on its film acquisition and restoration efforts will be held.  This exhibition will highlight cinematic treasures the Archive has collected from around the world, showcasing footages and related materials through multimedia installations.  Along with oral history interviews with acquisition team members and donors, audiences will be guided through the global footprints of Hong Kong cinema.  The exhibition will recreate an overseas acquisition site equipped with interactive devices, offering an immersive experience that brings out the challenges of acquisition work.  It will also feature actual tools and equipment used by professional conservators, introducing audiences to preservation procedures and the technical difficulties entailed.  Lastly, there will be a game zone that allows audiences to experience the fun of acquisition and conservation.

B: A screening of a video introducing the work of the HKFA followed by a talk on film repair and conservation work by film conservators and technicians at the Cinema, HKFA.
