PAC07 | Chinese Culture Festival 2026: Chinese Opera Festival - Luoyang Yu Opera Troupe

The Chinese Culture Festival 2026 has organised a special outreach programme with free performances for students to experience the art of Chinese opera.

It features a special showcase of operatic excerpts performed by the Luoyang Yu Opera Troupe, namely Huarong Pass from The Righteous and the Loyal and On the Way to Battle from Hua Mulan.  There will be guided appreciation and demonstration sessions to help the young audience gain a close understanding of Yu Opera, one of the five major operatic genres.

The genre originated in Henan Province, and is renowned for its powerful, expressive singing and vivid character portrayals.  It was inscribed on the first National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006.
