About the Project

"Music Nourishing the Mind: Chinese Music Quintet", a live music performance with audio commentary, takes audiences on a journey to explore the intrinsic link between Chinese music and state of mind while offering new perspectives on appreciating Chinese music and culture.  In addition to introducing contemporary Chinese chamber music works, this project also features a Nanyin ensemble of "Upper Four" instruments, with a view to promoting intangible cultural heritage (ICH) music pieces inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of ICH of Humanity, the Representative Items of National ICH, and the ICH Inventory of Hong Kong.  The fusion of traditional and contemporary Chinese music genres allows the audiences to delve into the quintessential spirit of Chinese music from ancient to modern times, and provides an opportunity to reflect on the underlying cultural pendulum swinging between Chinese music and today's society.

The project is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has all along promoted Chinese history and culture through organising an array of programmes and activities to enable the public learn more about broad and profound Chinese culture.
