About the Programme

Drumming in pulses, dancing with the soul.  A Dance of Drumming Pulses presents the splendid charm of Chinese ethnic dances drawing inspiration from nature and life with primal passion.  Various ethnic and folk dance with drumming crossing different dynasties are highlighted, together with a brand new dance work named Dance with Silent Pulses, drive the jubilant tempo with drum sounds in sincere touch with the souls.  The graceful dances bring the audience into a colourful dance world, exploring the profound cultural meanings and vivid sense of humanity.

About the Arts Group

Established in 1981, Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDC) is dedicated to promoting Chinese dance with contemporary artistic visions and Hong Kong character, staging over 200 productions to great acclaim.  They include L'Amour Immortel, Lady White of West Lake, Nine Songs, A Tale of the Southern Sky and more.  The Company has extensive international connections, creating cultural rapport by touring to America, Europe, Korea, China and multiple others around the globe.  With its mandate to create original interdisciplinary works, the Company delves into confluence of Chinese dance and Chinese martial arts traditions, creating grand dance poem Shan Shui: An Ode to Nature and novel dance and martial arts theatre Convergence.  From which, the top-notch excerpt Whispers of the Pines, is bestowed the 13th China Dance Lotus Awards (for Contemporary Dance) in 2023, the most prestigious national awards for dancing in China.

Enlisted as one of the major performing arts groups, Hong Kong Dance Company was incorporated in 2001 as a charitable and non-profit-making institution, and is financially supported by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  Hong Kong Dance Company is the Venue Partner of Sha Tin Town Hall.
