Community Oral History Theatre Project

In order to promote the development of arts and culture, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department co-organises the “Community Oral History Theatre Project" with local arts group and district organisations in the form of partnership collaboration since 2009. Through organising a series of workshops, the project aims at gathering the personal experiences and valuable recollections of the elderly in certain districts to come up with a drama script, and providing an opportunity for the elderly to act their stories on stage.

This project has been launched in different districts:

Sham Shui Po District  (October 2009  –  May 2012)
Kwun Tong District (October 2011  –  January 2014)
Islands District (Tai O)  (March 2013  –  November 2014)
Eastern District (April 2014  –  January 2016)
Sha Tin District (October 2015  –  April 2017)
Central and Western District (February 2017  –  January 2019)
Sai Kung District  (July 2018  –  September 2021)
Kowloon City District  (December 2019  –  September 2022)

The Sham Shui Po project received the "Top Ten Best Practice Awards" and "Outstanding Working Approach Award" under the "Best Practice Awards in Social Welfare" organised by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in 2011. 9 elderly participants from the Sham Shui Po District were even invited to perform in the movie A Simple Life directed by Ann HUI.
