M02a | Discovering the Hong Kong Film Archive (In Cantonese) (Completed)

This programme consists of two sessions:

Part One: A tour of HKFA’s permanent exhibition “In Memory of Queen’s Theatre” and the following thematic exhibitions:

1. Tales behind the stills (September to October 2020) A good film still captures the essence of a movie. They can be placed in promotional booklets for overseas distribution, made into posters to attract audience, or turned into souvenirs that fans can take home. From posters on the walls of cinema halls to GIF images on the web, film stills document the people and the moments on screen and behind. Through the eyes of stills photographers, this exhibition will uncover the colourful tales behind each image from the angles of history, culture and aesthetics.

2. Out of the Past - From the Hong Kong Film Archive Collection (HKFA 20th anniversary programme) (January to March 2021)

Film took root in Hong Kong in the early years of the last century and went on to become a major form of entertainment for the people. It also became an indispensable part of Hong Kong’s history and culture. Since its 2001 opening, the Hong Kong Film Archive has collected and preserved a large and varied number of interesting artefacts that vibrantly connect our cinema with Hong Kong’s history and culture. This exhibition features relics from the Archive's Collection, every one of which is testament to changes in Hong Kong people’s way of life from our grandparents to our parents over the years. Part Two: Screening of film conservation video followed by demonstration of the daily repair and restoration works of film technicians.
